Before you can apply, you must first register no later than December 6, 2019, at 5:00 PM Central. You must submit the following information via email to

  1. Team Name or Organization Name
  2. Team leader name and contact information (email address, and phone number), U.S. citizenship/permanent residency status, and age.
  3. Name of all team members, an indication of whether they are a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, and their ages.
  4. Address of primary place of business.
  5. The name of the insurance company with which you have current, valid liability insurance for $250,000 with NASA named as an additional insured.

In order to be eligible for an award, you and all team members must be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States and provide proof of that status.

No Team Member shall be a citizen of a country on the NASA Export Control Program list of designated countries in Category II, Countries determined by the Department of State to support terrorism. The current list of designated countries can be found at As of July 12, 2018, only 4 countries are in category II (Iran, North Korea, Sudan, and Syria). Please check the link for latest updates.

IMPORTANT: Puerto Rican birth certificates issued before July 1, 2010 will not be recognized as proof of Lawful U.S. Citizenship beginning November 1, 2010. The government of Puerto Rico has provided information for citizens to apply for new birth certificates.

Proof of Liability Insurance

In order to participate in this Challenge, you must provide a copy of your current, valid liability insurance in the amount of $250,000 that covers all team members and names NASA as an additional insured. This liability insurance shall cover (A) a third party for death, bodily injury, or property damage, or loss resulting from an activity carried out in connection with participation in a competition, with the Federal Government and NASA named as an additional insured under the registered Competitor’s insurance policy and registered Competitors agreeing to indemnify the Federal Government and NASA against third party claims for damages arising from or related to competition activities; and (B) the Federal Government and NASA for damage or loss to Government property resulting from such an activity. For more information, review the CO2 Conversion Challenge Insurance Guide.
